If you’re planning to get married in Maharashtra, India, you’ll need to obtain a marriage certificate. This legal document serves as proof of your marriage and is required for purposes such as applying for a passport, visa, joint bank accounts, or legal name changes.
Eligibility Criteria
- Groom must be at least 21 years old, Bride must be 18 years old.
- Both must be mentally and physically fit for marriage.
- Both must not be within prohibited degree of relationship.
- Neither should be married to someone else at the time of application.
Documents Required
- Marriage Memorandum: Information on Form D must be accurate.
- Age Proof (any one, attested):
- Birth Certificate
- School/College Leaving Certificate
- Passport
- Domicile Certificate
- Residence Proof (any one, attested) for both bride and groom:
- Ration Card
- Election Card
- Electricity/Telephone Bill (in applicant’s name)

- Standard Certificate: ₹100 – Issued within 7 days
- Tatkal Certificate: ₹200 – Issued within 24 hours
- Late registration: ₹50 to ₹500 penalty depending on delay
